The Roberts Academy & Dyslexia Center at Vanderbilt University is a ±60,000 SF educational facility designed to support K–5 students with dyslexia through an environment tailored to their unique learning needs. The project includes approximately 9,000 SF dedicated to the Dyslexia Center, which provides outreach services, assessments, tutoring, and teacher training.
The building’s materiality and massing reflect and extend the architectural language of Vanderbilt’s historic Peabody Campus, offering a contextual and cohesive addition to the university’s landscape.
Guided by pedagogical research and close collaboration with educators, the design of the classroom modules prioritizes flexibility and inclusivity. Each classroom is paired with an adjacent tutoring room, enabling smaller breakout groups and individualized instruction—key components in supporting students with dyslexia.
Beyond academic spaces, the facility includes a gymnasium, library, cafeteria, climbing wall, and playground, creating a holistic learning environment that fosters both physical activity and intellectual growth.
