This facility houses the College of Education for Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. The building is 3 stories and includes a 3 story open-atrium lobby with full height glass, lounge/study areas on each floor, a 2nd floor exterior balcony, and small café. All floors are linked with a grand spiral staircase in the center of the lobby which behaves as the heart of the building.  Often, students are seen tucked into every corner of this space waiting for class, catching up with other students, or studying on a break.

Other spaces include 30 “smart” classrooms ranging in size from 24 to 50 seats, 75 seat and 150 seat “smart-auditorium” style classrooms, 2 computer labs and 1 wet lab, board and conference rooms, and approximately 90 offices in varying sizes and suite arrangements. Every office, classroom, and lab has exterior windows and views, and/or overhead clerestory windows for natural day-lighting. The facility also includes nearly $2.5 million in state-of-the-art A.V. and Data/I.T. technology for smart-classrooms, enhanced acoustics, and automated/programmable lighting which includes automatic window shades for dimming. Lastly, the project incorporates sustainable design features in multiple categories to meet the State’s sustainability guidelines for new facilities.
