Nashville Jefferson Street complex moves forward with housing, bank HQ

A long?planned mixed?use development on Jefferson Street took a key step forward Friday, Feb. 27, as developers and city leaders broke ground on a project aimed at bringing housing, retail and new economic activity to one of North Nashville’s most historic corridors.

The Renaissance on Jefferson development will include two buildings with mixed?income apartments, a business incubator and retail space operated by Corner to Corner, and the future new headquarters and flagship branch of Citizens Bank, the nation’s oldest continuously operating Black?owned bank.

Supporters said the project could help reignite investment along Jefferson Street while tying growth to affordability and community development.

Former Tennessee Titans linebacker Derrick Morgan, who led the project through his firm KNGDM Group, joined city leaders and other stakeholders at a ceremony marking the start of construction Feb. 27.

"The project is like a signal," Morgan said. "It's like, oh wait, Jefferson Street is open for business.
